Birth Doula

Benefits Of Hiring A Doula:

The many benefits of hiring a certified birth doula are recognized by the World Health Organization and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Several studies show that a doula’s continuous support, practical knowledge, and labor enhancing techniques help to reduce pain and anxiety in laboring women. When a laboring woman is less frightened and feels less pain, her labor is more likely to progress without the need for interventions. Research shows that a doula’s presence during labor and birth results in the following positive outcomes:
             ~reduction in cesarean deliveries
             ~reduction in epidural requests

~reduction in the use of pitocin
              ~shorter labors
~an increase in successful breastfeeding and bonding
              ~a reduction in postpartum depression

What you get when you hire me to be your Birth Doula!

Free Consultation This is a time for us to meet, discuss my services, explore your reasons for wanting a doula, and determine if I am the right doula for you and your family.

2 Prenatal Visits A trusting relationship is the foundation of doula care, so these meetings are focused on us getting to know each other, having open discussions, and building YOUR support team. We will discuss your concerns and birth preferences, look at evidence based information, create a personalized birth plan (if desired), review labor positions and comfort measures, discuss your previous birth experience (if you’ve had one), and anything else you might want to explore or review.

Unlimited Text Support When you reach out, I will promptly reply. It’s so simple but so important to know that a compassionate and knowledgable doula is just a text away. I can make suggestions and just listen in a way that can ease your mind.

On-Call Services Beginning at 37 weeks in your pregnancy, I am officially on-call for you. This means that I don’t leave town, my cell phone is on me at all times, and I answer my phone 24 hours a day. If there is reason to believe that you might go into labor before 37 weeks (e.g., you did with your first pregnancy, you’re having twins, or you’re in a high risk category), I can easily make arrangements for on-call services to begin earlier.

At Home Labor Support Not everybody needs or wants this service, but for those who want to labor in the comfort of their own home for as long as possible, my presence can be reassuring. I help to normalize the labor process and help keep things calm so you can feel safe and secure. I also offer tips on labor progression and comfort measures, and help you determine when it’s time to transition to the hospital.

Labor And Birth Support At The Hospital,Home or Birth Center Wherever you choose to birth your baby I offer support in a variety of ways including informational support, physical comfort methods, mental and emotional encouragement, labor progression techniques, effective positioning, breaks for your birth partner, and working with your medical team to honor your birth preferences.

Photos Of The Day Your Child Is Born Birth Photography is a deep passion of mine! Therefore, if it is your desire, I will capture amazing images of your child's birth day! I do offer a discount if you choose both of these services together. Please click the Birth Photography page for pricing and portfolios!

Immediate Postpartum Support After your baby is born, I stay with you for about an hour or so to assist with breastfeeding, encourage family bonding, remind pediatric staff of your newborn decisions, and rejoice in the beauty of your baby. This is a great time for more photos also!

Postpartum Home Visit Once you’re home from the hospital or birth center and are nesting in with your baby, I come to your house to offer transitional support focused on processing the birth experience, assisting with breastfeeding, answering newborn care questions, discussing your transition into parenthood, or whatever else you’re wanting to check in about.
